I was the arranger on a couple of sessions yesterday and today, which basically means I prepared the chord charts and was on hand to answer any questions the musicians had about the songs, clarify any chords, make sure they understood the form, etc. As well as general engineering duties, of course, shared with the producer. All in all, two intense and tiring days. I actually find that my brain gets tired from all the concentration, listening to everything as it goes down.
Today I took the subway to work (yay, the environmet!), and snagged Nance’s iPod video, hee hee. I watched 1.5 episodes of 30Rock, which is a great show. I hadn’t heard about it until, geek that I am, I saw a clip of it at the iPhone inital announcement, when Phil Schiller shared a clip of it for everyone. Then I got hooked, and since I don’t get NBC on our antenna (I know… we STILL don’t have cable) I got a few episodes via bittorrent. Hooked. Brilliant. Zany. Like Studio 60 but actually a comedy. I love the opening theme music too, it’s peppy and classy and zippy. (Wow, that’s a lot of words that end with -y)
I need to get better headphones if I’m going to listen to things on the subway… it’s so loud I think I need to get some in-ears to cut some of the noise. I have to remember to protect my ears a bit more, since I have to earn a living using them… sigh. (Did I just justify getting in-ear headphones because of my JOB? Did I mention I can write them off? No, wait! Who’s saying that? Stop!)
Anyway, I have to go. I have a message to finish for Sunday. But first I have to finish half an epsiode of 30Rock!

one friend of mine got the inner ear bulb noise cancelling ones for at least $150 or something — eeks!

yeah, it’s crazy how much those little ones, especially, cost. There are even ones that you can get a custom mould of your inner ear made, and then attach the earphones to them… nice, but I think I’ll go for something a little less spendy…
